The owners, Dan and Caroline, first came up with the idea for Fat Tommy’s back in 2000 on New Year’s Day, dreaming of their plans for the millennium. At the time, Dan and his business partner, Tom, owned hot dog carts that fed hungry little leaguer’s at Kennedy Park since 1991. Dan and Caroline decided on that New Year’s Day that it was time to move their hot dogs to a permanent location at 3256 W. 111th Street. Dan and Tom flipped a coin to decide the name of their new place; Tom won and Fat Tommy’s came to fruition that year.
In 2009, the hot dog joint moved locations to 3031 W. 111th where they now have more space and an outdoor area for their customers. They also added more items to their menu like hamburgers, french fries, and the famous, Inna-gatta-da-vita salad. They also received their liquor license in 2010 and now have an eclectic range of beers to choose from.
